EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The quarterly crime statistics report for March 2012 has been released.


AUTHOR RECOMMENDATION

THAT the information be received and noted.


REPORT DETAIL

The NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) has released its quarterly report of the recorded crime statistics for the period ending March 2012. The statistics show that in most of the major crime categories in Hurstville over the past two years there has been no significant trend indicated.

The number of incidents of motor vehicle theft has declined by 26.4% while the number of incidents of theft from motor vehicle has increased by 28.6% over the same period (see attachment).

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Council has been successful with an application for funding for an anti-graffiti project.


AUTHOR RECOMMENDATION

THAT the information be received and noted.


REPORT DETAIL

Earlier this year Council applied for funding under the Proceeds of Crime Act to undertake an Anti-Graffiti Education and Support Program in partnership with the Pole Depot Community Centre and with the support of the Juvenile Justice Conferencing Centre. The project involves working with young offenders to help reduce the likelihood of re-offending and to develop educational workshops for high schools. The project is funded for $148,000 over two years.

FURTHER THAT a representatvie from Pole Depot Community Centre be invited to a future meeting to discuss the project.
