RECOMMENDED THAT the apologies be accepted and leave of absence granted.

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING

The minutes of the previous meeting held on 10 April 2012 were confirmed as a correct record.


MATTERS ARISING FROM LAST MEETING
The event for International Day of People with a Disability is still in the planning stages. Council is hoping to work with Hurstville Dance studios running dance lessons which will lead to a demonstration for December 2012.


ITEMS

ACC006-12 COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP (SF11/57)


New membership for the Access Advisory Committee will be open after the council elections. We will also look at designing a flyer to attract more members to the committee. It was also suggested that consideration be given to having it printed in a community language. (St George Migrant Resource Centre for Interpreter & Translation Brokerage funding grant.)

ACC007-12 ROAD SAFETY PUBLIC EDUCATION PROGRAM (08/262)
After the poor response to the Road Safety workshops it was decided to approach community centres and independent living hostels/unit to the workshops. A list was given for the facilitator to follow up. Council to follow up in three months.

ACC008-12 TRIPS AND FALLS CAMPAIGN (08/262)
Due to the poor attendance of the Falls Prevention program proposed to be run in Olds Park in April 2012, it will now be run in partnership with the Falls Prevention Team and community centres later during the year (2012). A number of different community centres and groups have already been approached. To be followed up in two months.

ACC009-12 MOBILITY MAP FOR HURSTVILLE CBD (08/262)
Examples of mobility maps were shown during this meeting to get feedback. It was mentioned that a few years back a mobility map was designed by a student, Brenda to look into this. The maps shown will be used as the start for our mobility map in Hurstville. It was also suggested to look at using a student to undertake this project. To be followed up.

ACC010-12 GENERAL BUSINESS (08/262)
Accessible Bus Stops: We are working through the bus stop from the audit and addressing the more simple ones first (need only concrete boarding area) working up to the more involved (needing the movement of the bus stop). The next round of funding will cover 1 July 2012 – June 2013.

Reminder that Carers Awards have come around again, which help to recognise cares in their role. It was mentioned that there are a lot of unseen cares out there that could be nominated.

Mental Health Line: The NSW Government has committed to improving the mental health outcomes for people of NSW through establishing an 1800 011 511 Mental Health Line.

There was also some very positive feedback for the facilities and condition of Olds Park.

New Access Assistance Information brochure from Railcorp was received and noted
