EXECUTIVE SUMMARYCouncil will be hosting an Open Day for a specific cultural group in 2010.AUTHOR RECOMMENDATIONTHAT the next Open Day be held for members of the Italian community.REPORT DETAILEach year since 2003 Council has organised Open Days targeting main CALD communities in the area to give them the opportunity to learn about Council's role, services and facilities. The first Open Day in 2003 was for the Chinese community, this was followed by Open Days for the Italian and South Pacific Islander and Maori (SPIM) communities in 2004; the Arabic speaking community, the Macedonian community and the Greek community all in 2006, the Indian community in 2007 and the SPIM and Chinese communities in 2008. Open Days for new arrivals attending St George/Sutherland Community College and TAFE were also conducted in 2007, 2008 and 2009.It can be seen from the above that the Italian is the next community in the cycle to be invited to an Open Day and it is proposed to hold this event in May or June of this year. Clr Liu requested that consideration be given to organising another Open Day for the Chinese community. If the Committee adopts the above recommendation then it is suggested that consideration be given to organising another Chinese community Open Day in the 2010-11 financial year. COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION - MACTHAT the next Open Day (in May/June 2010) be held for members of the Italian community and an Open Day for members of the Chinese community be held together with an Open Day for members of another community in the 2010-11 financial year.COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION - SDTHAT the next Open Day (in May/June 2010) be held for members of the Italian community and an Open Day for members of the Chinese community be held together with an Open Day for members of another community in the 2010-11 financial year.
