CSC005-10ALCOHOL FREE ZONE - RIVERWOOD
Report Author/sManager Community Services Mr D Linden
File10/377

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This report provides an update on the proposed Alcohol Free Zone (AFZ) in Riverwood

AUTHOR RECOMMENDATION

THAT the information be received and noted

REPORT DETAIL

The recommendation from the last Committee meeting regarding the re-establishment of the AFZ in Riverwood was adopted by Council at its meeting on 24 March. In accordance with the legislative provisions the proposal has to be advertised for community feedback including from licensed premises in the area. Following the expiration of the consultation period a further report outlining any submissions received is required to be submitted to Council for consideration. Council can then determine if it proceeds with the AFZ. Should Council so decide then a further public notice is required to be published in the local newspaper before it takes effect. It is proposed that the second report be submitted to Council in May with the AFZ coming into effect by around mid-June should Council resolve to proceed.

CSC007-10ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR - EGBASTION RESERVE
Report Author/sManager Community Services Mr D Linden
File09/1462

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Council has received representations regarding anti-social behaviour in Egbastion Reserve

AUTHOR RECOMMENDATION

THAT the information be received and noted

REPORT DETAIL

Council has received representations regarding alleged anti-social behaviour in Egbastion Reserve and requesting a review of safety issues in the area. The allegations relate to, inter alia, the consumption of alcohol and drugs leading to the creation of disturbances to the neighbourhood. Following receipt of the representations an on-site inspection was arranged between Council and the police with the resident and as a result the police have placed the area on the tasking list, maintenance on the existing lights in the reserve has been carried out and arrangements are being made with Energy Australia for the installation of a flood light on the existing light pole in Dennis Pl to illuminate the adjacent area of the reserve. It should be noted that several years ago Council resolved to prohibit the possession and consumption of alcohol in the reserve between the hours of sunset and sunrise and the signs erected at that time are still in place. This prohibition is enforced by the police.
