DOES THIS REPORT REFERENCE AN EARLIER REPORT? (If so, then indicate full report reference details)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report is provided to advise Council that the Hurstville Central and Penshurst Branch Libraries will be closed on the Saturdays before Christmas 2005 and New Year 2006. Notices will be placed at both libraries to advise members of the public of the proposed closure on those dates.

RECOMMENDATION
THAT the information be received and noted.

REPORT DETAIL
This year Christmas Eve falls on a Saturday, as does New Year's Eve. It is anticipated that there will little or no demand for public library services on the day before the two holidays. Hurstville is normally open from 9.30am until 4.00pm, and Penshurst from 9.30am to 12.00 noon on Saturdays, and the libraries are staffed by permanent staff paid overtime and by casual staff. Closure would therefore mean a cost saving in wages while not negatively impacting on members of the public.
