SPEED MANAGEMENT A joint Councils and Georges River Police district project | School Safe 2000 The project will promote safety and research the extent of speed and parking related issues around the vicinity of schools. This is an Enhanced Police Enforcement Program. The media promotion of this Police Enforcement was divided between the Road Safety Officers’. I contacted the Station Manager at SBS radio and a media release was forwarded to 64 radio language announcers for inclusion in the “community announcement” segment of their radio programs. I also contacted the Greek newspaper “O Kosmos” and forwarded the media release. A photo school was organised with the local paper “The Leader” which I attended and this was published alongside an article. Local primary schools were contacted and encouraged to have “Heavy metal>Soft head banners placed on their school fence to remind motorists about the dangers of speeding. Hurstville City Council has four banners which will be shared between the local primary schools. The four schools with the banners at the moment are: Hurstville Public School Peakhurst West | 8 May – 16 June 2000 |
DRINK DRIVING: Intox Rock ‘n’ Road youth drink driving project: PEDESTRIAN SAFETY: | St. Josephs Primary Penshurst West Intox Rock ‘n’ Road Local high school students (Years 9-10) invited to participate in a song writing competition and will perform at a concern on 15 June in front of peers, family and judges. The lyrics need to focus on the education that was provided by the Road Safety Officers in the St. George Region and the St. George Alcohol and Other Drugs Service with an emphasis on strategies not to drink and drive. A new co-ordinator has been employed at the St. George Alcohol & Drug Service. An informal meeting was held at the Hurstville City Council Entertainment Centre to meet the new Co-ordinator, view the venue for the concern and to discuss any outstanding matters. School Safe 2000 A joint Councils and Georges River Police district project (Also discussed under Speed Management) By targeting speeding drivers around 40km school zones, the project aims to minimise the risk of young children being killed or seriously injured. OTHER ACTIVITIES | group. An outline of possible advertising activities has been discussed. I contacted the 3D World Magazine and The Drum Media Magazine (which are popular youth magazines provided for free at various outlets) to obtain quotes on advertising in their magazines. A profile of their readership was also obtained. Triple J radio was contacted for details on promotion opportunities at The Big Day Out event.
