03.11 AUSTRALIAN ARMY CADET CORPS - 233 REGIONAL CADET UNIT, ST GEORGE - REQUEST FOR DONATION (F/00036)
(Report by Administrative Officer, Mr T Hopwood)

The St. George Unit is based at Chandler Street, Kogarah.

Council’s policy also provides for such donations to be an amount of up to $200.00 to offset expenses for competitions and exhibitions.

The St. George Unit of the Australian Army Cadet Corps’ request does not comply with Council’s policy detailed above.

As over 50% of the troops of the unit reside in the Hurstville Council area, and most would be under the age of 18 years, Council may wish to make a donation under the provisions of Section 356 of the Local Government Act.

As members may be aware Council will be considering the policy on sporting, cultural, art and academic grants at the next meeting of the Policy Review, Forward Planning and Staff Committee which is scheduled to be held on 16th February, 2000. Council may wish to consider this matter in conjunction with the review of the policy on sporting, cultural, art and academic grants.

As indicated in the above letter Council at its meeting held on 15th July, 1998 a request from the Australian Army Cadet Corps – St. George Unit to conduct an under 18’s disco to raise funds for the Unit’s trip to Gallipoli. The Unit also requested that the Marana Auditorium be provided at a nominal rental.

Council subsequently resolved to provide the Marana Auditorium to the Australian Army Cadet Corps – St George Unit at Council Costs plus 10%, equal to a rental of $650.00. The normal rental for such usage of $1,320.00.

In view of the above information, the following recommendation is referred to Council for consideration.

03.13 ROTARY CLUB OF HURSTVILLE INC - REDUCTION OF RENTAL FOR THE USE OF THE MARANA AUDITORIUM (H/00004)
(Report by Administrative Officer, Mr T Hopwood)

The 3 Clubs are:-
Council’s Entertainment Centre Officer has advised that the normal rental for this request to use the Marana Auditorium would be $1074.00 and that Council’s Costs plus 10% would be approximately $225.00.

As members would be aware Council grants free use of the Marana Auditorium each year to the Hurstville Rotary Club for the holding of their Annual Antiques & Collectables Fair. In 1999 the granting of free use of the Marana Auditorium for the Antiques & Collectables Fair, saw council forgo $4,500.00 in rental.
