Item: MM001-21 Georges River Council - Successful Grant Applications

Background

In response to the ongoing challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Georges River Council continues to demonstrate its responsiveness and resilience, making the health and wellbeing of our community, customers and staff our first priority.

Since I last advised Council in October 2020, I am pleased to report that the General Manager has been successful in securing 19 grants valued at over $8.5million to support the work of Council in providing activities, services and facilities to our community. These funds will help to offset the adverse financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Grant Purpose:	To build and further strengthen cooperation and engagement with the local Chinese communities in relation to Our Journeys, Our Stories, an exhibition that reflects on Chinese migration history in the area.

Grant Purpose:	To host activities for business communities within the LGA.

Category / Program	Greening our City Stream: Cooler Suburbs

Grant Purpose:	Funding from the Cooler Suburbs stream will go towards planting 1,000 new trees in streets and parks and distributing trees to schools in a Carlton Canopy Corridor, stretching from Narwee to Kogarah Bay.

Grant Amount	$129,000
Grant Purpose:	Funding from the Green Innovations stream will go towards planting trees in urbanised areas in Georges River which will measure the benefits associated with increasing canopy cover in urban areas including improved health of residents.

Funding Body	The NSW Environment and Planning Agency
Grant Amount	$154,518
Grant Purpose:	This funding will support projects within Georges River to recycle more and decrease the amount of waste sent to landfill.

That the General Manager accept the grants on behalf of Council and continue to pursue grant funding for projects and programs of Council.
