MM011-20 Georges River Council - Local Strategic Planning Statement
(Report by The Mayor, Councillor Greene)................................................................ 3
Mayor: The Mayor, Councillor Greene
Council has once again shown its capacity to be a leader in Local Government. Georges River Council was in the first tranche of councils and one of seven councils to receive endorsement from the Greater Sydney Commission for the Georges River Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS).
Georges River LSPS 2040 will guide land use planning and the delivery of significant infrastructure for the LGA over the next 20 years. The LSPS creates a land use vision for the future that recognises the character of our suburbs and builds on the Georges River community’s social, environmental and economic values and strengths.
The Georges River LSPS 2040 was informed by a comprehensive engagement program with the community, Councillors, State government and other potential collaboration partners. This program included:
· over 900 community members participating in workshops, drop-ins and pop-up events,
· 743 surveys completed on Housing and Centres,
· 136 submissions received during the public exhibition period, and
· almost 8000 visits to the LSPS website
I thank the Councillors for their input in the development of the Statement and I also wish to thank and acknowledge the considerable input and effort from the staff, community and other collaborators in receiving this commendation from the NSW Government.
That Council note the Greater Sydney Commission’s letter of support for the Georges River Local Strategic Planning Statement 2040.
