Mayoral Minute

Item:        MM010-19        Congratulations to Ellen Maher for her achievements at the                                              Special Olympics World Summer Games

Mayor:             The Mayor, Councillor Greene

MOTION:

That Council congratulate Ellen Maher for her achievements at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi.

Background

I was recently contacted by Ellen Maher from Beverly Hills, expressing her thanks to Council for the recent financial support provided to her to attend the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi.

In March 2019, Council endorsed a donation to Ellen Maher from Beverly Hills, providing her with financial support to attend the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi.

As an Artistic Gymnast she performed on four apparatus: the Vault, Uneven Bars, Beam and a Floor Routine.

I have great pleasure in reporting that Ellen achieved 4th place for the Vault, Bronze for the Uneven Bars and Gold medals for the Beam, Floor Routine and Overall Performance.

Ellen demonstrates what is attainable with dedication, perseverance and the support of family, friends and the Georges River community.

Ellen is in attendance at the Council Meeting tonight and on behalf of Council, I would like to congratulate Ellen on her achievements.

Item:        MM012-19        Bronze Award at the Australasian Reporting Awards

Mayor:             The Mayor, Councillor Greene

MOTION:

That Council congratulate the staff who were involved in the preparation of the 2017/18 Annual Report.

Background

Council received notification that the Georges River Council Annual Report was successful in addressing most of the demanding criteria of the Australian Reporting Awards (ARA) and Council received a Bronze Award in the 2019 ARA Awards.

To receive a Bronze award a report must provide satisfactory coverage of most of the ARA criteria; present quality disclosures in major areas; and have no more than one significant shortcoming.

Council staff represented Georges River Council and attended the Awards Presentation Dinner on Wednesday 19 June 2019, accepting the Bronze Award on behalf of Council.

Director’s Comment

This Annual Report is the first for Georges River Council and this is the first submission that Council has made as part of the Australasian Reporting Awards.

The ARA Awards are open to all organisations in Australia, New Zealand, and countries in the Asia-Pacific Region and elsewhere that prepare an annual report: companies, government departments and agencies, and not-for-profit bodies including charities.

For Council to achieve a Bronze Award for its first submission, is a recognition of the significant effort by staff in the production of the Annual Report.

Financial Implications

All costs associated with the Integrated Planning and Reporting requirements of the Local Government Act 1993 are funded from the annual budget allocation within Council’s Operational Plan.
