Item:        MM007-19        Sydney FC - A League Champions 2019

Mayor:             The Mayor, Councillor Greene

Background

The recent A-League Grand Final saw Sydney FC victorious after a heart stopping penalty shootout. This success in the A-League added to the silverware already collected by the Club after their victory in the W-League Grand Final, a wonderful double.

It gives me great pleasure to congratulate the Club on their success, after a season of hard work from the players, coaches, support staff and of course club management.

This season, Council were very pleased to host Sydney FC at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium with the ground proving to be a popular venue with players and supporters.

MOTION:

That Council congratulates Sydney FC on their victories in the A-League and W-League Grand Finals.

Item:        MM008-19        Federal Election 2019

Mayor:             The Mayor, Councillor Greene

Background

While we all have different political views and affiliations we all agree that we are fortunate to live in a country where the democratic process determines our leadership and government.

With this in mind, I take this opportunity to congratulate the Prime Minister and Member for Cook Scott Morrison, on leading his party to victory and wish him every success over the next three years.

I also record my congratulations to the Member for Banks, David Coleman, on his re-election and re-appointment to the Ministry.  Similarly I congratulate the Member for Barton, Linda Burney, and Member for Watson, Tony Burke on their re-election.  We are very fortunate to have four outstanding local members who work very co-operatively with Councillors and staff.

MOTION:

That Council congratulates the Prime Minister and our local members on their re-election with the Mayor to forward letters of congratulations to each member.

Item:        MM009-19        St George Football Association Allstars Georges River Council

                                       vs Bayside Council

Mayor:             The Mayor, Councillor Greene

Background

On Saturday 17 August 2019, the St George Football Association Allstars local derby will see premier league men’s and women’s teams battle it out at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

SGFA Premier League coaches will select players to represent a mighty Georges River Council Allstars team going head to head with a Bayside Council Allstars team.

This exciting event will be a highlight of the local Grand Final Football weekend.

This is a unique opportunity for Council to further support our local community and foster positive relationships with our neighbouring Councils.

I challenge the Mayor of Bayside, Councillor Bill Saravinovski, to a friendly competition and propose that the losing Council fly’s the winning Council’s flag for a day. In the true spirit of a local competition, I also propose that the losing Mayor wears the winning Council’s jersey at the next available Council Meeting after the match.

I look forward to seeing Councillor Saravinovski in the Georges River jersey following Bayside’s defeat on 17 August.

MOTION:

That Council support the St George Football Association Allstars local derby and challenge Bayside Council to a friendly competition where the losing Council fly’s the winning Council’s flag for a day and wears the winning Council’s jersey at the next Meeting of Council.
