Background

Council is proud of the diverse Georges River community, and regularly celebrate our rich history and culture.

Recently Council hosted a Harmony Day event which celebrated inclusiveness, respect and belonging, regardless of cultural or linguistic background.

For upcoming Pride month in June, Council will continue to support and celebrate the LGBTQI+ community through a range of events and installation of a “Rainbow” crossing in Forest Road, Hurstville

The Eurovision Song Contest celebrates tolerance and inclusion through song and performance. Georges River Council is pleased to host, for the first time, a live broadcast of the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest at 5:00am on Sunday 19 May 2019. This free community event promotes unity and tolerance.

I invite my fellow Councillors to support our richly diverse communities and attend these inclusive events.

MOTION:

That Council acknowledges the diversity of the Georges River community and commends Council’s program of inclusive events.
