That the reappointment of The Hon Morris Iemma as the District Commissioner for the Southern District be endorsed. |
Executive Summary
1. District Commissioners for the five Greater Sydney Districts are appointed by the NSW Minister for Planning (and ratified by Cabinet) on the recommendation of relevant local councils.
2. The initial District Commissioner appointments expire in early September 2018. Under schedule 2 of the Greater Sydney Commission Act 2015 (GSC Act), an appointed member holds office for such period (not exceeding 4 years) as is specified in the appointment instrument, is eligible (if otherwise qualified) for re-appointment, and can hold office as a member for not longer than 8 years.
Background
3. In accordance with section 6 of the GSC Act, the Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Sydney Commission, on behalf of the Minister, is seeking advice and recommendations from local councils on the appointment of a District Commissioner for the Southern District for a new term to commence in September 2018.
4. Council may nominate a new District Commissioner or may choose to request that Mr Iemma be reappointed for a new term to commence in September 2018.
5. It is recommended that Mr Iemma be re-appointed as the District Commissioner for the Southern District of Sydney. Should Mr Iemma not be available or decline the appointment, it is understood that the Greater Sydney Commission will seek Expressions of Interest for the role.
Financial Implications
6. No budget implications – District Commissioners are remunerated by the NSW government.

(a) That the Environment and Planning Committee adopt the recommendations contained within the Minutes of the Economic Development Advisory Committee held on Monday 30 April 2018. (b) That the following recommendation made at the meeting of the Economic Development Advisory Committee meeting held 30 April 2018 be endorsed by Council:
(i) That Councillor Hindi be appointed as Chairperson and Councillor Kastanias be appointed as alternate Chairperson of the Economic Development Committee.

Background
2. In accordance with the adopted Terms of Reference (attachment 2), the Economic Development Advisory Committee will meet quarterly and items considered by the Committee will be presented to the Economic Development Advisory Committee for their adoption and posted to Council’s website.

3. No budget impact as a result of this report.
