Recommendation

That Council notes the in-kind sponsorship support provided to 14 Stars Children Foundation to the total value of $2,700 for its charity event held on 24 March 2018 at Hurstville Entertainment Centre.

 

Executive Summary

1.      14 Stars Children’s Foundation held a fundraising Comedy Night charity event held on 24 March 2018 in the Marana Auditorium, Hurstville Entertainment Centre.

2.      On 14 March, Council received a request from 14 Stars Children Foundation for support of the event through the full waiver of venue hire fees for the Marana Auditorium, to the value of $2,700. As per section 356 of the Local Government Act 1993, Council may grant financial or in-kind assistance to individuals or organisations for the purpose of exercising its functions.

 

Background

3.      14 Stars Children’s Foundation is a non-profit organisation established in 2015. The charity’s mission is to provide support to seriously ill and disabled children and their families. They also provide relief and support to children and families in war-torn countries around the world suffering humanitarian crises.

4.      The $2,700 in-kind sponsorship was approved in accordance with the approved Sponsorship and Donations Policy.

5.      All approved Incoming or Outgoing Sponsorships or Donations are recorded in an online register published on the Georges River Council website and updated monthly.

 

Financial Implications

6.      Council’s 2017-2018 budget for charitable donations is $50,000 with $29,750 remaining in the budget.

 

Community Engagement

7.      Community engagement was undertaken in the development of the Sponsorship and Donations Policy and Events Strategy.

Recommendation

That Council approves the donation request of $500 to the Kogarah Concert Band for its 130th Anniversary Celebration, being held Sunday 17 June 2018 at Mortdale RSL Club.

 

 

Executive Summary

1.   Kogarah Concert Band seeks a donation for its 130th Anniversary event to be held on Sunday 17 June 2018, where all proceeds will go to Calvary Kogarah’s “LifeMusic” program.

2.   Council received a request for a financial donation of $500 to this event. As per section 356 of the Local Government Act 1993, Council may grant financial or in-kind assistance to individuals or organisations for the purpose of exercising its functions.

Background

3.   An assessment of this sponsorship request occurred in accordance with Council’s Sponsorship and Donations Policy and Events Strategy. The assessment verified this event would be categorised as a Tier 2 mid Council-supported/funded event as per the decision-making criteria in section 4.3 Funding Determination Model of the Strategy.

Financial Implications

4.   The 2017/18 budget allocation for community-run events is $119,780.  Of this budget there is $33,581.19 remaining for this financial year. Approval of this request is within the budget allocation (Please refer Attachment 1).

Community Engagement

5.   Community engagement was undertaken in the development of the Sponsorship and Donations Policy and Events Strategy.

Recommendation

(a)     That Council approve a donation in the form of purchasing a table of 9 valued at $900 at the Lugarno Lions Sports Breakfast to be held on Friday 4 May 2018.

(b)     That Council include the approved donation on its Donations and Sponsorship register on the Council website.

 

Executive Summary

1.   Council has been invited to attend the Lugarno Lions Sports Breakfast on Friday 4 May 2018. Council has supported such events in the past as they are deemed to be important community events.

Background

2.   Approval is now sought to provide a donation in the form of purchasing a table for 9 invitees to attend the Lugarno Lions Sports Breakfast on Friday 4 May 2018.

3.   The Sports Breakfast will be held at the Booth Saunders Pavilion, Hurstville Oval from 7.00am.

4.   Lions Australia indicate that 100% of all profits from this function will go to The Lung Foundation Australia, the only national charity dedicated to supporting anyone with a lung disease. They are the first point-of-call for patients, their families, carers, health professionals and the general community.

5.   As per Council’s Sponsorship and Donation Policy all Incoming and Outgoing Sponsorship or Donation agreements are assessed by an internal panel in accordance with this Policy to determine whether it is in Council’s (public) interest to accept or provide that Sponsorship or Donation. Following the review, Council officers recommended approval of the table purchase.

6.   All approved Incoming or Outgoing Sponsorships or Donations are recorded in an online

      register published on the Georges River Council website and updated monthly.
